Sandra Grimley Bio

I have aspired to art making since I was a little girl growing up in Orange County. A history major in college, I worked as a sportswriter for 15 years, before making the switch to elementary education. During my 23-year career, art was a favorite subject to teach, and after retirement, I had the opportunity to pursue art as a hobby. At a meeting of Associated Artists of the Inland Empire, I made contact with Celeste Blair and took my first acrylic painting class at Hobby Lobby.
Through AAIE and other local art associations, I was fortunate to meet a talented assortment of art instructors — including Aleta Jacobson, Ray Tucker, Chris Cozen, and Trudy Wood — who taught me technique and encouraged me to try new things. Since the COVID pandemic, I have utilized on line resources to pursue abstract mixed media art, focusing on the use of shape, line, color, and text to instill meaning into my artwork. Robert Burridge and Judy Woods have been influential in developing my current style, which employs acrylic paint, acrylic ink, pastels, colored pencil, and collage.
