Paul Speaker

Paul has been interested in photography since childhood, when he began with roll film and a box Brownie. However, Paul began his artistic career as a cellist and spent five years at Julliard studying as a classical cellist. Shortly after Julliard, he enrolled in the US navy and due to his ability to discern perfect pitch became a submarine Sonar Technician and is proud of his 22 years as a Navy reservist.

After active duty, Paul attended Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree with a double major in Industrial Photography and Color Technology. Shortly thereafter, he was hired by General Dynamics Corp, where he worked as an industrial photographer and color printer. When the facility was sold and moved, he switched to free-lance photography focusing on commercial, family, and wedding photography, moved to school photography photographing seniors and panoramas, then later became a full-time retoucher for a full-service portrait studio serving 6 photographers. Currently, Paul is semi-retired, accepting assignments and teaching photography skills.
