Cynthia studied from seasoned artists in Life Drawing\, WC\, and Art History from several community colleges. A trip to Europe left great impressions from seeing the Masters at the Louvre. Her work evokes a gentle\, soft\, romantic feeling.

SUMMARY:July Gen Meeting with Susan Whitley: Collage
DESCRIPTION:Don’t forget\, as a member benefit\, you can bring one of your own newly created artworks for our Art of the Month display. Any medium is acceptable. Art must arrive before 9:20 for check-in by Juan. Here\, the artwork is voted on by our members and our demonstrator to determine the favorite Artwork of the month. \n. \nAlong with your own artwork\, come to the meeting to hear how Susan stresses the emotional aspects of her creative approach to art and her creation of landscapes using collage techniques. \nSusan writes that there is an undeniable attraction for humans to observe and absorb  some sense of peace or awe from a dramatic landscape. \n It is this connection between seeing a grand landscape as a singular person and gaining energy from the vast scope of natural phenomena\, as well as the history of those who have felt this same way in years past\, that inspires my artwork. \nWhile my work has obvious visual references to landscape elements\, I enjoy and crave the spontaneity of abstraction\, unplanned mark-making\, and collaged elements\, such as second-hand vintage papers.

SUMMARY:October 2026 Gen Meeting with Ruthellyn Whittington: Weaving
DESCRIPTION:I was raised in SouthernCalifornia in a family that highly regarded creativity and education. As a child\, I found great joy in writing and illustrating stories. My mother was an incredible seamstress\, and I developed a love for fiber and fabric. I attended Immaculate Heart College in Los Angeles and received a BFA with an emphasis in Textile Arts\, in particular\, weaving. During college\, I studied with the Hopi Natives each spring break and was taught spinning and the natural dyeing process of fibers. This was an incredible experience that shaped me as an artist. I went on to earn teaching credentials in art\, English and school counseling. I worked as an educator for thirty-eight years and retired in 2018. \nSince my retirement\, I have journeyed back to my own artistic spirit. As a textile artist\, I find inspiration from dreams\, creative thinking\, and my own photographs. Each weaving tells a story of my life experiences\, in which I hope that others can relate. I use hand-spun fibers from spinners located all over the world to create a variety of textures and color combinations in my work. My strength is color\, which is an innate ability that I am sure was also influenced by my mother. My weaving process is off-loom in different sizes and shapes.
